Four young people, including a son of former Honduran President Porfirio Lobo Sosa (2010-2014), were murdered early Thursday morning as they left a nightclub in Tegucigalpa.
The son of the former president and victim of the crime was Said Omar Lobo Bonilla; the rest of the deceased were identified as Luis Armando Zelaya Rivera, a relative of the former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces Romeo Vásquez Velásquez; Salomón Vásquez, son of a retired soldier; and Norlan Enrique Rivera Rodríguez, driver and security for Lobo Bonilla.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 in the morning (local time), in the vicinity of Morazán Boulevard in the Honduran capital, reported El Heraldo.
According to Romeo Vásquez Velásquez, the youths left the nightclub, boarded two vehicles and were intercepted by armed men, who forced them to get out and riddled them with bullets.
The retired general, after condemning the act, called for a review of the security policy. “This has the characteristics of an operation,” he commented; however, he indicated that it is the special bodies that must give the explanations.
Another son of Lobo is saved
Lobo Sosa visited the crime scene. “These are things that happen, they are things that hurt,” said the former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who mentioned that they still do not know if the attack “was directed” or not, since they took down all the young people and killed them.
However, he pointed out that those who killed his son “are trained people.”
According to the former president, another of his sons, Luis Lobo Bonilla, also accompanied the fatal victims at the time of the massacre; however, he managed to save his life since he was driving in another car.
“Nothing happened to my other son because he was driving the car, the other car,” he declared.

The director of the National Police, Gustavo Sánchez, attributed the crime to the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13). “The intention is to cause chaos, instability and terror,” the official said.
