The death of soldier Thanasis Nikolaou in Cyprus was due to murder by strangulation, according to the conclusion of the investigator announced today Friday (10.5.24).
In 2005, at the age of 26, Thanasis Nikolaou, who was serving his military service in the National Guard, was found dead under a bridge in the village of Alassa, Limassol. Initially, his death was attributed to suicide.
According to the Cypriot media, the investigator Doria Varosiotou announced at the Limassol Court that the investigation shows that the unfortunate Thanasis was murdered by strangulation.
As reported by RIK, at the center of the investigation into the much-lauded case, the statements of two pathologists and the criminal investigator were found.
Announcing her multi-page decision, the investigator referred to the martyred life of the victim in the army and the constant bullying he experienced from other soldiers.
The decision was received with particular emotion by the relatives of the victim, stressing that justice has been served, 19 years following the death of Thanasis.
His mother, Andriana Nikolaou, expressed her satisfaction, stressing that the court proved what she claimed from the beginning, that her son was murdered.
Relatives and friends of the unfortunate national guard had gathered outside the Limassol provincial court with banners and photos of the deceased.
