The Neutral Union for Independents (SNI) wants the VAT rate reduced to 6% to be perpetuated on the demolitions and reconstructions of homes, it pleads on Friday. According to the SNI, this reduction in VAT has indeed shown that it is bearing fruit. Adopted at the end of 2020, this measure will end on December 31, 2023.
According to the union, the need to reconstruct existing buildings is, on the one hand, increasing due to “a context where the three regions of the country have issued decrees with a view to putting an end to the concreting of landscapes for reasons environmental issues”, which will limit the possibility of building new homes in the future.
The need to maintain a reduced VAT rate on demolition and reconstruction is part of the fight once morest climate change, given the need to improve the energy efficiency of current buildings, according to the union. . “For many homes, it is difficult to ‘simply’ renovate to reduce energy consumption. Demolition and reconstruction are therefore the only solution.”
In such a context, the SNI judges that increasing the VAT rate to 21% would send the wrong signal to owners wishing to make their homes more economical. “On a bill of 200,000 euros, this would result in a difficult to bear additional cost of around 30,000 euros which risks discouraging many owners,” concludes the union.
