Asuncion, IP Agency.- In a moving ceremony held at the Ueno SND Arena, the 2024 Capital Unified Regional Games were officially inaugurated. The event, full of color and emotion, was attended by the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, and the Minister of Sports, César Ramírez.
Starting this Thursday, the National Sports Secretariat (SND) complex becomes the epicenter of inclusion with the celebration of the 2024 Capital Unified Regional Games. More than 850 athletes from Asunción will compete in 14 disciplines over two intense days, scheduled for August 13 and 14.
Participants from 20 educational institutions in the Paraguayan capital will seek to reach the podium in this important regional sporting event, also preparing to represent the country in the Latin American Games that will soon be held in our territory.
Athletes will compete in various disciplines, including athletics, badminton, futsal, 3×3 basketball, tennis, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, bocce, swimming, and as an exhibition sport, taekwondo. The competitions will be held at the SND complex, the Paraguayan Olympic Committee and the Sajonia Club.
During the morning of this first day, the athletes shared a special moment during lunch, with food delivered by volunteers from the Office of the First Lady, supported by officials and technicians from the National Secretariat of Sports and Special Olympics Paraguay.
The mascot of the Special Olympics Latin American Games Asunción 2024, Tami, visited the dining room, infecting everyone with her energy and joy.
In the afternoon, the celebration continued at the country’s most prominent sports centre. The Ueno SND Arena was the scene of an emotional moment when the athletes, accompanied by their families, took part in the torch relay with the flame of hope and the lighting of the cauldron, a symbol of the passion for inclusion that characterises this great event.
The competitions continue this afternoon and will run until Wednesday, August 14.
