Today, Sunday, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, expressed his grave concern over the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, in light of the continued bombing “in any form.”
Grossi stressed, according to the IAEA’s account on Twitter, “the need to urgently establish a zone to protect nuclear safety and security at the station,” noting that “consultations have already begun in this regard.”
In addition, he welcomed the “reform of the station’s backup power line, which the agency announced earlier today, which means providing the station with external electricity that it needs to cool the reactor, in addition to other basic safety functions.”
