The Simpsons have done it once more with a new prediction. Indeed, fans of the American family are convinced that the long-running animated series has once once more predicted two events that have just been in the news for the past few days.
Since their debut in 1989, the Simpsons have strangely managed to predict current events. From Donald Trump’s presidency to the Covid pandemic to Richard Branson’s spaceflight: over the years they have referred to many events that ended up happening years later in the real life.
This time, it is the release of a new trailer for the film “Barbie” and the indictment of Donald Trump that have been predicted. The two events are unrelated yet were plot points in a 1994 episode titled “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy”. This week, Tuesday April 4, the trailer for “Barbie”, Greta Gerwi’s new film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, was unveiled, while Donald Trump was charged with 34 counts of “tampering accounting documents”.
In the episode, Newscaster Kent Brockman discusses Lisa Simpson’s campaign to urge the creators of Barbie to come up with a more feminist toy that empowers young girls. Then, Kent Brockman concludes his newscast by announcing that the president has been arrested.
The series therefore succeeded in predicting both the election of Donald Trump and his arrest.
In justification, a screenwriter of the series said that: “If you write 700 episodes and you don’t predict anything, then you’re pretty bad. If you throw enough darts, you’ll end up hitting the bullseye.”
