The holistic intervention in the free home care of vulnerable groups, such as the sick, the needy, the elderly and the chronically ill, is the subject of the cooperation agreement signed between the Municipality of Aegialia and “Co2gether AMKE” at noon on Tuesday in the event hall of the Municipal Store ( former Town Hall) of the Commonwealth in Rododafni, sealing the already good cooperation between the two entities which has resulted in over 360 fellow citizens having already been served in the last months, mainly in settlements far from the urban centers of the Municipality, while sanitary materials have been delivered to institutions and bodies cost 35,000 euros but also a large amount of food in structures in the area.
During the presentation of the cooperation program, the Mayor of Aegialia, Mr. Dimitris Kalogeropoulos, praised the work of the Municipality’s Welfare which confirms the sensitivity of the municipal authority towards vulnerable and weak units, as it constantly advances in various actions and initiatives to support those fellow citizens they have various needs, material and not only.
“It is our duty to help those who need help, and I must thank the staff of Welfare and individual services for the structured and efficient work. Our doors are always open for collaborations like this one with Co2gether, while I must emphasize that no financial obligation arises to the Municipality”.
A reference to the actions of Co2gether in the Municipality of Aegialia so far concerning home visits, taking care of the small and large needs of the beneficiaries, the offer of health equipment and food from the special bank based in Patras, was made by the deputy mayor of Health-Welfare, Mr. George Angelopoulos , who did not fail to congratulate his predecessor Ms. Diamanto Vasilakopoulou-Kartsonaki for the foundations she laid during her deputy mayorship.
The head of the service, Mr. Dimitris Kaitsas, spoke regarding the support of the Municipality in implementing proposals that go one step forward and raise the standard of living of the citizens without discrimination.
Finally, Mr. Katerina Alexopoulou and Maria Zafeiropoulou, on behalf of Co2gether, proceeded with a brief presentation of the program and the actions that have already been carried out together with the Municipality of Aegialia, mentioning also the operation of advocacy groups for the rights of the elderly, the holding of seminars, etc. a.. Responsible on behalf of the Municipality of Aegialia for the cooperation with Co2gether, the employee Mrs. Constantina Maglara was appointed.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE OBJECT OF COLLABORATION
Co2gether implements home interventions and interventions in the community related to hygiene and safety at home (elderly, disabled, chronically ill, needy), in collaboration with local social services, Community Center, Help at Home, etc. during the interventions care and self-care advice is given to all members of the household, there is a possibility of referral to a psychologist, ergonomic interventions are implemented (e.g. installation of adhesive tapes and night lights to avoid accidents, pelvic lifts), counseling on the use of medicines, on storage them and discarding those that have expired.
Also through the interventions there is the possibility to give free health materials to health and social welfare structures and walking and movement aids such as wheelchairs, walkers – electric beds and scooters – masks, gloves – sterile gauzes – surgical sets.
Co2gether also operates the Food Bank of Western Greece. Therefore, through the interventions, there is the possibility of providing long-lasting food, detergents, etc. to families of the Municipality and Structures.
Co2gether’s work team is made up of specialized staff with a Gerontologist, Nurse as well as external partners (hygienist, speech therapist, social worker, physical therapist), Administrative staff, Social Innovation Services Manager, Journalist, Cinematographer & Digital Content Creator.
During the interventions in the community, the following will be carried out:
– Screening for gerontological vulnerability
– Trainings in care and self-care of the elderly and their caregivers
– Mental and physical empowerment workshops for the elderly and their informal caregivers
– Workshops on issues of advocacy and defense of patients’ rights
– Trainings for new mothers and children in first aid, home safety, crisis management, sexuality.
– Simulation exercises in a geriatric uniform to develop empathy
– Referral for free psychological support
– Group counseling by a gerontologist.
It is emphasized that the provision of all services is free of charge.
