French authorities confirmed early Thursday morning that a minor died following being hit by a hit-and-run driver in the city of Montpellier following the World Cup semifinal between France and Morocco.
The young man, 14 years old, He was rushed to a hospital nearby following being hit by a car, and died shortly following being treated, as detailed in a statement by the French prefecture of Hérault.
The events would have taken place when a group of people, presumably supporters of the soccer team Moroccothey were walking down the street and they snatched from a vehicle the flag of France that was hanging in the window.
After that, the car began a flight and ran over several people, including the minor, according to a video broadcast on social networks.
The video shows how a group of people intercepts a white car and they snatch the French flag that was hanging on its doors. Subsequently, the driver passes over some railway tracks and drives on the opposite street to leave the place, hitting at least two people.
Despite the claim of those present, the car continues to drive, returns to its initial lane of traffic in the opposite direction until it leaves the road. Meanwhile, the pedestrians gather around the young man run over and show gestures of despair.
According to the Hérault prefecture, the vehicle was found near the crash site and made available to the police. In this sense, the French Police have launched an investigation into what happened.
The president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith, Mohamed Moussaouicondemned the death of the minor on social networks, urging that “everything possible be done to arrest the perpetrator of this heinous crime.”
“A motorist ran over Moroccan supporters in Montpellier, leaving a child between life and death. Our prayers for him and our support for his loved ones, ”added Moussaoui.
