Incidents of violence have shaken the center of Paris this Saturday, following a protest over the shooting death, on Friday, of three people of Kurdish origin.
Three other people were injured following a subject opened fire at a community center and a Kurdish restaurant.
Clashes broke out on Friday, between police and a group that had gathered at the scene following the attack.
Images showed fires in the street and some protesters breaking car windows.
Police riot unit officers responded by firing tear gas when a group tried to break through the security cordon.
some protesters flipped over carswhile others set fire to other vehicles.
They also threw objects at the police.
Violence flared up once more on Saturday following hundreds of Kurds gathered peacefully at the Place de la République to pay tribute to the three victims.
Cultural center
The attack on Friday took place at a Kurdish cultural center and at a restaurant on Rue d’Enghien, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
A 69-year-old man suspected of firing the shots described himself as a racist who hated foreigners, a police source told the AFP news agency.
Police detained the suspect who did not resist and reportedly recovered the weapon used in the attack. Prosecutors said they had opened an investigation.
The subject, who is being questioned by the authorities, had recently been released by another attack on an immigrant camp last year.
“We were walking down the street and we heard gunshots,” a witness, Ali Dalek, told the BBC. “We turned around and we saw people running.”
“And then five or six minutes later, because we know people who work at the hair salon, we walked in and saw that a man had been arrested.”
Another witness, a shopkeeper, told AFP that she had locked herself in the premises. She noted that she had heard seven or eight bursts of gunshots.
