On Tuesday, October 22 and Wednesday, October 23, there will be no ferry services, as the Panhellenic Maritime Federation (PNO) is proceeding with a 48-hour warning strike.
“A meeting was held today between the Commands of SEEN and PNO. The object of the meeting, as they had been informed extrajudicially, was the renewal and signing of the S.S.E. Coastal Ferries Passenger International Ships & Cruise Ships for the year 2025. In addition to the increase rate, a number of very serious issues governing the working status of our colleagues in the specific categories of ships were also put on the table. Unfortunately, the meeting broke down under the sole responsibility of the employer, following their intransigent attitude. To the 12% increase that our Federation had requested, they counter-proposed a 3% increase for 2025. They also did not agree to discuss a series of other problems,” PNO initially states in a statement.
And the PNO continues: “After the meeting, the Executive Committee of the PNO held an emergency meeting and after discussing the defiantly intransigent attitude of the employer who, with various tricks, led the negotiation to a dead end, believing that in this way they will escape from the satisfaction of our perfectly fair demands. We cannot ignore the high profitability of the companies, the 150,000,000 euros they receive annually from the state fund for the subsidies of barren lines, the bonus that the government is preparing for them for the renewal and modernization of their fleet due to the famous transition to green shipping. We still cannot ignore the fact that on all ships even these minimums included in maritime legislation are being violated at the expense of seafarers”.
“Also, the wretched regime imposed by Law 41/50 was particularly highlighted, according to which at the end of October, 50% of the hotel staff were dismissed, without even being compensated, as well as the 4-month routing of the high-speed trains that it has caused significant changes in the work of our colleagues while making many of them seasonal seafarers.
A special mention was made by several Members of the Management of PNO that Members of the Board of Directors. of SEEN buy ships worth tens of millions of euros. In contrast to all this, our colleagues are faced with an unbearable wave of accuracy in basic living goods, energy, education, health.
Especially our colleagues who work in High Speed Ships are faced with this monstrosity of the four-month routing which serves specific centers and not the passenger public on an annual basis and our islanders.
Taking into account all of the above, the Executive Committee unanimously decided to send Escodics to declare a 48-hour PANEL warning strike, with the prospect of escalation, on October 22nd & 23rd in the above categories of ships and to send escalations to all ports”, the announcement concludes.
Regarding the requests of the PNO, the following are clarified:
“WE DEMAND: signing of a collective bargaining agreement with a 12% increase rate,
WE REQUIRE:
Repeal of Law 41/50,
Immediate amendment of the article on the four-month routing of E.G/O.G, High Speed Ships and
Imposition of seven-month mandatory routing,
In practice and not on paper without any objection, the non-approval of itineraries by the S.A.S. and Ministers, in view of the new sailing period, without the strict observance of the Maritime Legislation
In the name of interests, you cannot and do not have the right to circumvent Maritime rights, but also to undermine through this process the safety and protection of human life at sea.
We extend a broad call to the Sailors, the islanders and all organizations to stand by the Federation’s decision so that we can all defend our fair rights together.
Safe maritime transport cannot be understood without seafarers with structured rights”.
