Abu Dhabi: The UAE President announced a $119 million prize for new discoveries in the field of water purification. The prize was announced as part of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative.
Last day, the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative was announced on behalf of the President of the UAE to find a solution to the global water shortage. In continuation of this, a huge prize was also announced for the discoveries in this field. Named X Prize, the competition is preparing a total prize money of up to 119 million dollars for those who find the best water purification technology.
There is a requirement that the water treatment technology found should be reliable, cost-effective and meet sustainable standards. Researchers from around the world can submit their findings in the five-year competition. An investment of 150 million dollars has also been announced for this purpose. The announcement ceremony was held at the historic Niqa Bin Ateeq Water Tank area of the UAE. President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Water Initiative Chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and many other dignitaries attended the event.
