USAI was successful with the series The Big 4 in 2022, Director Timo Tjahjanto released his latest work on the over the top (OTT) platform, Netflix. This time the 44 year old director is releasing the film The Shadow Strays and it will be released on October 17 2024.

This is Timo’s first film to be released on Netflix after The Night Come for Us in 201. Even though 6 years have passed, Timo is still not tired of presenting Action-Thriller genre films.

Talking about the idea that brought him to present The Shadow Strays, Timo explained that the issue of matriarchy was something he wanted to emphasize in the film. Placing Aurora Ribero (actor 13) as the main character, Timo wants to show how a woman is also able to deal with men.

“Because I feel that a lot of Indonesian films are told from a masculine perspective, yes, and it becomes a challenge in itself when we tell something that is very tough and sometimes contains violence but from a woman’s perspective,” said Timo at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday. (15/10).

With a duration of around 145 minutes, throughout the film the audience will be satisfied with full action scenes. Timo doesn’t seem to want to let the audience breathe, for almost the entire 145 minutes of the film the audience will be presented with Aurora’s slick performance against her opponents.

Interestingly, in this film Timo presents a mostly fresh cast, providing a new breath for the sustainability of the Indonesian film world. Apart from Aurora, Hana Malasan (Umbra), Andri Mashadi (Ariel), Kristo Immanuel (Jeki), Adipati Dolken (Prasetyo) and young actor Ali Fikry (Monji) were also present there.

Talking about her role as 13, Aurora said that The Shadow Strays was her first action film. He admitted that he worked very hard in preparation for the film. The 20 year old woman said it took months to do a martial arts workshop for this film.

“To really be able to play character 13 well, the action workshop process and other things took me 4 months, and I was the first actor to enter the workshop. “Why it took me the longest was because I really didn’t know anything about action and so on, so I had to learn the basics,” said Aurora.

If you look at Aurora’s appearance in the film, the woman born in Semarang seems to have used 4 months to practice martial arts seriously. It is clear how Aurora looks violent in every action scene. It seems that the audience will not see Aurora, who is known as a gentle woman through several of her roles in previous films.

It is known, The Shadow Strays tells the story of 13 (Aurora) who is a trained assassin who was suspended because she was careless on a mission in Japan. The girl returned to her hometown in Indonesia and met Monji, an 11 year old boy who lost his mother to a crime syndicate.

When Monji is arrested to be silenced regarding his mother’s death, 13 is determined to save him. It is in an effort to free Monji that 13 meets a series of new opponents. He did not hesitate to kill the people who worked together to capture Moji, including his mentor (Umbra) and the organization that employed him. (M-3)
