The building is the Fu Shan Public Mortuary after relocation, and the storage capacity of remains has been increased to 830 to meet the increasing demand for services and to improve the operating quality and hygiene standards of the mortuary.

The spokesperson of the Department of Health pointed out that the building is a specialized facility for forensic medical services under the department. The name “Forensic Science Building” is to highlight that it is not only a public mortuary, but also a modern forensic pathology facility with multiple functions. . The seven-storey building provides equipment and facilities that meet infectious disease control, occupational safety and health standards. There are various forensic pathology facilities in the building, including refrigerators, freezers, autopsy suites and laboratories, etc. It is the first time in Hong Kong that a computer scanning room is set up in a public mortuary, allowing forensic pathologists to have more ways to understand The condition of the remains and an in-depth pathological study.

In addition, the building also provides more suitable space and a more spacious environment for the family members of the deceased. There are also 3 indoor farewell rooms, which provide a quiet and private environment for family members to hold simple farewell ceremonies. At the same time, the building will also be used as a training place for law enforcement officers for criminal investigation and crime scene investigation training.

In addition to its functionality, the building adopts a modern and aesthetic exterior design. At the same time, it also beautifies and greens the surrounding environment, so as to change the public’s impression of the public mortuary in the past and reduce the possible impact on the landscape.

After the opening of the Forensic Medicine Building in the New Territories (Sha Tin), the current Fu Shan Public Mortuary will cease operation on January 7 next year. In addition, the government is planning to reprovision the Victoria Public Mortuary in Kennedy Town to meet the increasing demand.
