A historical drama given masterfully by the Chilean Felipe Gálvez Aberle, will be enjoyed at 9.30 on the evening of Tuesday 16 July by the friends of the Municipal Mobile Cinema in the atrium of the new Town Hall.
Title of the film that takes us to Chile in the 19th century “The Settlers”. In his directorial debut, Felipe Gálvez weaves a blood-soaked, crude anti-Western story to make a bitter, scathing commentary on Chilean History – the genocide of the indigenous people and the atrocities of European colonialism.
The movie
Three horsemen are hired by a wealthy landowner to mark the perimeter of his sprawling estate. Soon, however, this administrative mission will turn into a bloody hunt for the natives of the area.
This is a dark, visually stunning western with elements of a horror film. Felipe Gálvez brilliantly uses the codes of genre cinema to critique the atrocities of European colonialism that we cannot – and should not – forget. With a grand visual style, slow-burning pace, mystifying atmosphere and a starkly realistic, gritty depiction of violence, the film tells a story steeped in blood and death. The massacre of the indigenous people of Chile by the Spanish landowners.
