The seriously injured student at Schuman testifies: “I was afraid for my life”

“I finally got lucky”, he analyzes. Not to have been attacked by the attacker, known for his psychiatric history, but to have survived his injuries. After the attack, he had to be rushed to hospital in serious condition.

“At first it was difficult, but now I can sleep better. The pain is bearable”he explains in words translated by 7sur7.

“Everything happened really fast”

A few days following the attack, the German student remembers what happened. “I had headphones on, I was listening to a song. The metro stopped at Schuman and a man got on. He turned towards me. As I had my headphones on, I didn’t hear him, but I saw that he was getting mad at me. I heard him insult me ​​in French, then I saw something shine in his hand. I didn’t understand that it was ‘a knife. Everything then went very quickly.”

The young man, who was to join his girlfriend, is pinned to the ground and receives several stab wounds: in the hand, in the arm and in the chest. “I remember having pain. I don’t know exactly what happened. But I think I was afraid for my life”he says.

“I’m not angry”

Today, the student, whose condition has improved, thinks of only one thing: to resume sport as soon as possible. “I’m not angry”he explains. “I realize I was lucky.” The outcome might indeed have been deadly.

The young man wants to pursue his projects. He plans to move in with his girlfriend at the end of his studies, probably in Brussels. “It doesn’t change our plans, it might have happened in any city.”
