The body obtains the vitamins and nutrients it needs for its proper functioning through the intake of certain foods, since the body does not naturally produce all the substances necessary for its proper functioning, which is why it is essential to select wisely and prudently the food eaten daily.
In the midst of a healthy and balanced diet, fruits and vegetables must be present, they are loaded with nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants that fulfill various functions within the body, among which stand out; strengthen the immune system, improve vision, fight free radicals, prevent and treat various diseases.
In order to acquire the benefits of the majority, it is important to vary the consumption of fruits and vegetables. The most frequent recommendation given by specialists is that fruit should be eaten at breakfast and in the two snacks of the day (morning and followingnoon) and vegetables must be present at both lunch and dinner.
To get the most out of fruit consumption, it is recommended to consume them in their natural state, previously washed and disinfected, since when they are consumed in juice all the fiber is removed and only the sugar (fructose) remains; that although it is of natural origin in large quantities it can be harmful to health and more so when refined sugar is added.
When the fruit is going to be chopped, it is pertinent to have good hygiene conditions when doing so and in the event that it is not consumed immediately, it should be kept in the refrigerator and for the shortest possible time.
Chopped fruit that has not been handled well can contain bacteria such as Salmonella, Listeria o Escherichia Coli. For this reason, health professionals emphasize avoiding its consumption, in places where it is not known for sure what management has been given previously to the food.
The symptoms of eating something that is contaminated with the aforementioned bacteria are: diarrhea, headache, fever, abdominal pain and gas. In the most serious cases vomiting may be experienced.
This is why the person who is going to cut and handle the fruit should have their hands freshly washed with soap and water, in turn, it must prevent the fruit from coming into contact with surfaces that are not previously disinfected or clean, for this it is recommended to use a clean chopping board. It is also important that the knife with which the piece is going to be cut is clean, even when other foods have been handled with it. It must be washed before proceeding to cut the fruit.
