The Select Ministerial Committee agreed on the terms of an extension

The Select Ministerial Committee of the Government agreed on Friday evening on the modalities for extending the production of electricity using nuclear reactors beyond 2025. The Government announces a press conference by Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten and Elia Group CEO Chris Peeters at 9.30 p.m.

“After years of uncertainty, we are securing supplies. The investment mechanism is being implemented as planned. (There is a) negotiating mandate for a possible 2GW nuclear expansion for 10 years as support for renewables “, announced the Minister of Energy on her Twitter account, before the press conference.

More broadly, the environmental minister evokes by the same channel “green acceleration, following twenty years of stagnation” on three points: “accelerate the energy transition with more wind and sun”; “reducing dependence through an accelerated exit from fossils”; and “reduce energy bills through less costly renovation and solar panels”.

For his part, on the same social media, the president of the MR Georges-Louis Bouchez also went there with a first comment: “Maintaining nuclear power without interruption was a condition of the MR and has been obtained! There will be no no shutdown of nuclear production. The modification of the 2003 Law before the end of the month will allow the nuclear power of the future. Reason prevailed over dogma”.
