The Seimas canceled the amendments regarding welfare pensions, leaving the current procedure for their payment in effect

On Thursday, 48 members of the Seimas voted for the proposal to reconsider the law returned by the country’s leader, and 64 voted for the law to be considered unadopted.

This means that welfare pensions will continue to be paid as before.

While vetoing the amendments, the president pointed out that the amendments adopted by the Seimas stop the increase of small pensions.

The chairman of the Social Affairs and Labor Committee, Justas Džiugelis, calculated that 54 million should be found in the state budget to implement the amendment proposed by the president. euros.

“Let’s manage the tax system, there are reserves in it,” said Irena Segalovičienė, the chief adviser to the president, in the Seimas.

The President proposed to determine that the pension supplement for persons receiving low pensions would continue to be calculated according to the amount of the minimum consumption needs (MVPD) valid for that month.

According to the head of the country, proposing to calculate the amount of the premium based on last year’s MVPD, as determined by the Seimas, worsens the situation of these people, negates their expectations and does not comply with the Constitution.

According to the Presidency, the procedure for calculating premiums proposed by the Seimas means that in 2024, regarding 30 thousand premiums for individuals will not increase – they will remain linked to the MVPD level of 2023 – 354 euros, while in 2024 the MVPD may be 446 euros.

Last week, the Seimas allowed the payment of welfare pensions to working people who receive a disability pension or who have lost 45-55% of their income. upon reaching the age of 24.

Currently, only people who are recognized as disabled under the age of 24 can work and simultaneously receive a welfare pension. Persons with 45-55% of working capacity at the age of 24, cannot apply for an allowance pension. The Seimas also unified the principles of determining disability pensions.

Now disability benefits or old-age benefits are granted only to mothers with multiple children. The Seimas allowed such pensions to be paid to parents as well.

In addition, the Seimas had allowed to receive welfare benefits for one year (instead of 6 months), if a person misses the deadline for applying for the benefit.
