Yesterday’s speech by Stefanos Kasselakis at the opening of the 4th Congress of the SYRIZA Progressive Alliance was a catalyst, as the “scene of rupture”, as perceived by many of the top officials, had a decisive effect on the rumored candidacy of Olga Gerovasilis.
In particular, many of the party’s top officials took the speech as “inflammatory” for them and “extremely divisive for the party” and the members, making an appointment a few hours later and under extreme secrecy, at a business place owned by a top member of SYRIZA.
There, Alekos Flambouraris, Christos Spirtzis, Katerina Notopoulou, Nikos Pappas, Kostas Zachariadis, Thanasis Theocharopoulos, as well as the Secretaries of the party, Rania Svigou and Giorgos Vasiliadis, engaged in overnight consultations, as protothema.gr reported this morning, with the aim to have a “single expression” in a joint nomination.
Being there shortly before midnight, those present reportedly invited Olga Gerovasilis to come to the meeting, telling her that she should “think regarding the prospect” of going to the internal party polls with a face of common acceptance.
The meeting ended, according to information, shortly following 3 in the morning, since then triggering a series of meetings early this followingnoon in the Parliament, with Dionysis Tebonera, Thanasis Theocharopoulos and several others crossing the threshold of the Vice President of the Parliament.
