Despite the lull at the start of the year, the flu epidemic has resumed in France in recent weeks. This increase in contamination is nevertheless clearly slowing down.
The flu season is still not over. The epidemic, which had subsided at the start of the year before rebounding, has continued in recent days with, however, a relative stabilization, summarized this Wednesday Public Health France. Last week saw a “stability of the majority of flu indicators for all ages in the city and in the hospital”, according to a weekly report from the establishment.
The epidemic, which arrived quite early in France this season, had calmed down at the start of the year, but has resumed in recent weeks. However, this rise is now slowing markedly, with the number of cases well below the peak of the first wave, suggesting that this recovery will not reach the levels of the end of 2022.
11 out of 13 regions still affected
Last week, the epidemic therefore did not record any significant development: in mainland France, 11 out of 13 regions are still affected, only Hauts-de-France and Normandy being in the phase of emerging from the epidemic. Overseas, the West Indies and Guyana are still affected.
This winter, the flu contributed to an unusual “triple epidemic” situation, with several waves of Covid as well as a particularly intense outbreak of bronchiolitis in babies.
The bronchiolitis epidemic, in decline since the end of December, continues to end across French territory. It ended in five new regions: Centre-Val de Loire, Corsica, Normandy, New Aquitaine and Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur. However, it continues in Mayotte and Reunion.
