The second racket of Russia defeated the champion of the Australian Open in Doha

Veronika Kudermetova defeated American Sofia Kenin in the second round of the tournament in Qatar. Her next opponent will be another American, world No. 6 Cory Gauff.

Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova reached the third round of the WTA tournament in Doha.

In the second round match, the Russian, seeded eighth in the tournament, beat the American Sofia Kenin with a score of 6:2, 7:5.

The next opponent of Kudermetova will be American Corey Gauff (fourth seed), who defeated Czech Petra Kvitova – 6:3, 7:6 (8:6).

Russian woman defeated the former first racket of the world at the start of the tournament in Doha

25-year-old Kudermetova is the 11th racket of the world and the second – Russia. She has one WTA title to her credit. The best result of an athlete at the Grand Slam tournaments is reaching the quarterfinals of Roland Garros 2022.

Kenin is the 2020 Australian Open champion. The American has been unsuccessful in the last two years due to injuries and poor form. Now 24-year-old Kenin is ranked 210th in the WTA rankings.

The tournament in Doha will end on February 19. The prize fund of the competition is $780.6 thousand.

Russia’s No. 1 Darya Kasatkina will play Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad-Mayi in the second round in Doha later Wednesday. The Fonbet betting company accepts bets on the victory of the Russian woman with a coefficient of 2.20, the Brazilian – 1.67.
