Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the second phase development of Kochi Metro will give a new direction to the urban development of the country. He was inaugurating various development projects of Kochi Metro and Indian Railways at Nedumbassery Sial Convention Centre. Extensive development activities are going to take place in the country in the next 25 years. The stage of modern development is beginning in Kerala too.

He said that the second phase of Kochi Metro, which will reach from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Kakkanad Info Park, will be very beneficial for the youth and professionals. Multi-modal connectivity system will be implemented in Kochi. For this, work is in progress to coordinate various transport systems under the Unified Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

The aim is to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in the city. The government has been giving great importance to the development of urban transport for the past eight years. Over 500 km of metro rail route has been constructed in the last eight years. The construction of a distance of one thousand kilometers is in progress – the Prime Minister stated.

A new milestone is being created in Kerala’s rail connectivity. With the dual carriageway from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore, it will be very beneficial for common travelers and pilgrims. The completion of doubling of Etumanur – Chingavanam – Kottayam line will be a big relief for Sabarimala pilgrims from different parts of the country, the completion of electrification of Kollam – Punalur line will reduce pollution and provide faster train.

As the transport system expands, the tourism sector will also expand. 70000 Crores have been given as Mudra loan in Kerala for entrepreneurial development. Most of these are initiatives from the tourism sector. Projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore are underway in Kerala for infrastructure development. 55000 crores is being spent for the development of National Highway-66. The Prime Minister added that this project can be called the life line of Kerala.
