The second case of monkeypox in CDMX is already confirmed: Hugo López-Gatell

MEXICO CITY (proceso.com.mx).- A second case of monkeypox has already been confirmed in Mexico City, reported the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell.

“I share that the InDRE has confirmed a second case of monkeypox in Mexico City. The patient is stable, receiving medical care and isolation and control measures have been established,” López-Gatell posted on his Twitter account.

THE FIRST CASE IN CDMX

On May 28, the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, confirmed this Saturday the detection of the first imported case of monkeypox in Mexico.

On his Twitter account, the undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion of the federal government reported that the infected person is a 50-year-old man who is a permanent resident of New York and who was probably infected in the Netherlands.

He added that the man, whose identity he did not reveal, is stable and in preventive isolation in Mexico City.

Monkeypox is transmitted from person to person by direct contact. It is not spread by air, water or food. The efficiency of contagion is low, so there are generally isolated cases or small outbreaks, not generalized epidemics,” López-Gatell wrote.
