The search for the taste of modern Latvia returns to the program "Taste Latvia" – Lasi.lv

The beloved “Rimi” gourmands Normunds Baranovskis, Mārtiņš Sirmais, Mārcis Mitrēvics, Liene Zemīte and Ilze Auzere are ready to go on an ever-new search for the taste of modern Latvia, which can be seen on TV3 channel on Sundays at 18.20

So far, gourmets have visited more than 200 companies, got to know the most diverse products produced in Latvia and created at least 100 new Latvian tastes. Therefore, in the new season of the show, viewers were invited to vote and choose their favorite products and companies, which gourmets should visit this time, get to know and learn about the production process, and then put these products together in a new, delicious recipe.

The selected products will be very diverse – there will be both a proper onion grown in the Zemgale field, without which almost no Latvian dish can be imagined, and pumpkin, of which at least 40 different varieties are grown in Kurzeme’s “Kliblapsās”. Traditional values such as “Talsu ritulis”, “Pūres truffles”, “Rīgas Melnais balsams”, “Rubeņu” chicken, the search for new flavors in “Zilver” winery, “Pupuchos”, “Liepkalnos”, “Labietis” brewery and “Top Food” in the cheese braid factory.

The producer of the show, Liene Vilnīte, reveals: “Gourmands treat this beautiful task assigned to them with humor, joy and pride – to create the taste of modern Latvia. As a producer, I am proud that I have been allowed to experience it in person. May we have a delicious new season!”

This season, gourmets will travel all regions of Latvia, getting to know how the most delicious cream is made in Daugavpils, butter in Lazdon, the favorite kefir in Straupe, the best ice cream in Rūjien, and also something new here in Pierīga – smoked cheese braid. Ilze Auzere will go to Talsi to learn how the famous and delicious cheese “Talsu ritulis” is made, and she will roll the delicious cheese roll in a green wrap with her own hands. Gourmets will also visit the “Olūksne olam” and Gaujiena “Very Berry” blueberry plantations in distant Alūksne, where they will learn how blueberry juice is obtained according to a traditional method.

Well, gather ’round, foodies! The beloved “Rimi” gourmands—collectively known as Normunds Baranovskis, Mārtiņš Sirmais, Mārcis Mitrēvics, Liene Zemīte, and the fabulous Ilze Auzere—are back at it, diving deep into the culinary heart of modern Latvia! You can catch this delicious escapade on TV3 every Sunday at 18:20. The tastiest time of the week, right?

Now, let’s get this straight: these five culinary crusaders have already trekked through more than 200 enterprises, sampling the crème de la crème of Latvian produce and whipping up over 100 modern Latvian flavors. That means at least 100 excuses to get the stretchy pants out! And guess what? Viewers are now given the power to vote for which local gems the gourmands should munch on next. Is it just me, or does democracy suddenly seem a lot tastier?

Expect an array of products that would make even Gordon Ramsay blush—with everything from the humble onion (the backbone of any Latvian dish) to pumpkin varieties that have more personality than your average reality TV star. We’re talking “Talsu ritulis,” “Pūres truffles,” and “Rīgas Melnais balsams” — it’s like a culinary Harry Potter, where every flavor has its own magical backstory!

The show’s producer, Liene Vilnīte, is clearly thrilled. She claims the gourmands take their task with “humor, joy, and pride.” And honestly, if you’ve ever tried to create a new dish, you know it’s about as easy as finding a clean spoon in a toddler’s kitchen. “May we have a delicious new season!” she proclaims. Yes, may we, indeed—because let’s be real, nothing says success like a season filled with culinary misadventures and potential food fights!

This season promises to be a cross-country gastronomic road trip! From Daugavpils’ rich cream to Rūjien’s best ice cream (what do they do there? Sprinkle it with fairytales?), they’ll even be hunting down the best butter in Lazdon. And let’s not overlook Ilze Auzere’s ambition to master the art of “Talsu ritulis”—it sounds like the Latvian version of “Roll the dice,” but with great cheese instead!

Oh! And listen up, because they’re also venturing into the land of blueberries at “Olūksne olam” and Gaujiena’s “Very Berry” plantations. They’re all in for a masterclass on how to squeeze juice like it’s going out of style, using traditional methods. I mean, who needs to modernize when you have all that history and skill at your disposal?
