On Sunday evening around 6 pm, the police received a report that 65-year-old Andres has disappeared with his boat in Puise. The man’s boat was found yesterday in Liialaiu, but the man had not been found by evening.
According to Vello Vichterpal, the district policeman of the Haapsalu police station, Puis volunteer sea rescuers found the aluminum boat Mini Buster belonging to Andres on Monday around 2 pm in Liialaiu.
According to Vichterpal, the time of Andres’ disappearance is unknown. “Nobody knows when he might have gone to sea,” said the district police officer. Andres was last seen around noon on August 22, moving on Puis beach, where he kept his boat. The disappearance of the man was discovered on the evening of Sunday, August 25, around 5 p.m., when they went to look for him at home. The man’s phone was found at home and has not been active since 6pm on Thursday.
Vichterpal said police received the missing report quite late on Sunday. That same evening, SA Kadudu’s operative search group started searching for Andres and his boat. According to Vichterpal, it was not possible to fly the drone due to the strong wind, but the reed-free coast was checked with the help of the Puis volunteer sea rescue unit.
The search continued on Monday, and then the search area was expanded. According to Vichterpal, the volunteers went through the islands and shores, both a drone and a helicopter were involved. The latter finished work on Monday around 5 p.m.
