Yambu: The Saudi Shura Council has instructed the Ministry of Education to review the three semester system implemented in schools since the last academic year. Last year, the previous two terms were changed to three terms. In order to raise the standard of higher education, the Shura has proposed to evaluate the three semester system implemented in technical and vocational training colleges, universities and schools in accordance with globally accepted models and to check how the students consider the new method. It should be checked whether the students have dropped out due to the three term system.
The Shura Council also commented that if the education sector cannot be transformed to international standards through the three semester system, it is possible to think regarding continuing the previous study method. According to the new school calendar revised from last year, a 39-week long academic year is now present in the country’s public education sector. Each semester is divided into three semesters of 13 weeks each.
It was announced earlier that the new system aims to raise the level of educational efficiency in line with the best international standards. After reviewing the evaluation of the three semesters, the ministry had assessed that the new system would be used to determine the educational level of the children, allow them sufficient time for their participation in national, social and cultural activities and programs and raise the level of learning.
