With the pandemic, different debates were opened around management and “real” access to health, one of them was revealed in Mar del Plata, especially when tourists coexist with locals; the lack of structure and beds for proper health care is evident.
In this line, Adrián Alassinodirector of the Medicine School of Mar del Plata (UNMDP), spoke with Radio Miter Mar del Plata (FM 103.7) and offered some considerations in this regard.
“As a School of Medicine, we also think regarding public policies in the medium and long term. We have already been talking regarding Mar del Plata has a deficit of regarding 400 beds in general. This has already been raised in meetings in the Deliberative Council, private and public organizations, regarding the need to have a highly complex hospital,” Alasino began by saying.
“When we talk regarding this type of establishment, they are not open doors, but rather referral establishments. That is why it is highly complex, they are all national, that is why it must have the support of the three levels, national, provincial and municipal”, added the director of the School of Medicine.
Asked regarding the political response in the Province in relation to the project, he said: “There are 12 mayors of the region, of different political colors, who have signed an agreement with the School and are waiting for something like this, to be able to refer patients. We have suggested that it have technical characteristics, it would be university because there would be practices.
In this sense, Alasino also highlighted that Mar del Plata “It is the fifth most populous city and it belongs to all Argentines, that is why we are shaping this project”.
To conclude, the manager did not specify a potential location for the High Complexity Hospital, but remarked the importance of a work such as the ring roadin order to determine a “accessible place for transfer and evacuation”.
