Former US President Donald Trump is intensifying his 2024 presidential campaign amid a pile of new opinion polls trying to measure his electoral fortunes following his indictment in New York.

A recent poll showed that more than half of Americans believe that Trump intentionally committed an illegal act, but many believe that the motive behind his accusation was political.

On Tuesday, Trump was arraigned in New York City on charges of making payments to silence porn actress Stormy Daniels, making him the first former president in American history to be criminally charged.

A recent >/Ipsos poll showed that 48 percent of Americans think Trump should suspend his presidential campaign following the indictment, up 5 points from last week.

The poll reported that 53% of those polled believed Trump’s actions were illegal. According to the poll, 20% of voters believe Trump did nothing wrong, while 11% said they believe he acted inappropriately, but was not intentionally illegal.

Some 52% of respondents see the accusations as serious, up two percentage points from last week’s ABC/Ipsos poll, while 39% do not view the indictment as serious.

And following Trump’s indictment, 45 percent of Americans think he should be found guilty of a crime, up 5 points from last week’s poll. According to the poll, 32% of those polled do not think that he should face charges.

Former President Donald Trump plans to return to New York for a second round of questioning and investigation Thursday into a lawsuit filed by Democratic Attorney General Letitia James over his business dealings, two people familiar with the matter told The Washington Post.

A judge overseeing James’ case has set a trial date for October and has said he will not move the trial date.
