The Saudi Embassy has resumed operations in Iran after 7 years

Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Iran has resumed operations after 7 years, Tehran has already reopened its embassy in Riyadh in early June.

According to the report of the news agency ‘AFP’, in March of this year, talks were held between Saudi Arabia and Iran, mediated by China, in which a consensus was reached on restoring diplomatic relations and reopening the embassies in both countries.

Long-time regional rivals, the two countries severed ties in 2016 after Saudi embassies were attacked during protests in Iran following Saudi Arabia’s execution of cleric Nimr al-Nimr.

Official news agency ‘IRNA’ said that according to ‘informed sources’ of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ‘the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the Islamic Republic of Iran has officially started its activities from Sunday.’

However, Saudi Arabia has not issued any official statement in this regard.

It should be noted that in June, Iran raised its flag and restored the activities of its embassy in Riyadh.

Earlier, the Iranian media reported that the reason for the delay in the restoration of the Saudi embassy was that the embassy was in a bad condition after the damage caused in the 2016 protests, which is being repaired.

The reports further stated that Saudi diplomats will work from a luxury hotel in Tehran until the building’s renovation work is completed.

Since the accord in March, Saudi Arabia has restored ties with Iran’s ally Syria while also stepping up efforts for peace in Yemen, where it has for years led a military coalition against Iran-backed Houthi forces. .

It should be noted that in early June, Iran reopened its embassy in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, after 7 years.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Reza Baghdeli, speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony, said that we consider today an important day in the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

He further said that the cooperation between the two countries is entering a new era.
