The Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari, hosted a Ramadan Iftar in honor of the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Abdel Latif Derian.
Bukhari also invited Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to an iftar that he will host at his residence in Lebanon, praising his efforts to protect the country in this difficult circumstance and restore Lebanese-Saudi relations to normal.
After the breakfast, Derian wished that the Lebanese-Arab relations would remain at the highest level and said: “We all maintain the good relationship with the Arab countries and Saudi Arabia in particular, and thanks to the efforts of Ambassador Bukhari, I believe that we will not go through a second crisis.”
The breakfasts hosted by Bukhari come a few days following his return to Lebanon, following the Kingdom and a number of Arab countries decided to return their ambassadors to Beirut.
Earlier today, Buhari received at his residence the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon Ioana Frontka.
During the meeting, they discussed all political developments and ways of coordination and joint cooperation.
Yesterday evening, Mikati received a call from Ambassador Bukhari, congratulating him on the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan, and inviting him to an iftar party he would hold at the embassy. His date was not officially announced, but media reports indicated that it would be tomorrow, Monday. Within the framework of the movement set up by the ambassadors returning to Beirut, Prime Minister Najib Mikati received Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdel-Al Al-Qena’i, where the two sides reviewed the Lebanese-Kuwaiti and Lebanese-Gulf relations.
Mikati also received a call from Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, during which they reviewed the Lebanese situation and the relations between Lebanon and the Arab Gulf states, in light of the positive developments that were recorded recently.
During the call, the Kuwaiti foreign minister said, “The Gulf countries are looking forward to the stability, security, and recovery of our beloved brother Lebanon.”
He stressed that “the ties that unite Kuwait and Lebanon in particular are very solid, and are becoming more and more solid with the days.”
Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah stressed that “Kuwait will spare no effort to support Lebanon and help it rise once more.”
He continued, “The determination of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to restore the health of Lebanese-Gulf relations and his perseverance in dispelling the impurities that plagued them is an appreciable matter and expresses a firm belief in the depth of Arab Lebanon.”
As for Prime Minister Najib Mikati, he renewed his thanks to Kuwait, the Emir and the government, for its permanent support for Lebanon, and its efforts and efforts to restore the Lebanese-Gulf relations to their clarity and vitality.
He said, “These efforts are appreciated by all the Lebanese, and they will always remain a shining point in the history of Lebanon’s relations with Kuwait.”
And last Thursday, Saudi Arabia announced the return of its ambassador to Lebanon, more than five months following he was summoned once morest the background of statements by a former Lebanese minister regarding the Yemen war, which Riyadh considered offensive, and a similar decision was announced by Kuwait and Yemen. The Kingdom stressed the “importance of the return of the Republic of Lebanon to its Arab depth, represented by its national institutions and agencies, and for Lebanon to prevail in peace and security, and for its people to enjoy stability and security in their homeland.”
