The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 could further boost the market for foldable devices with its front display

Samsung will undoubtedly introduce a new model of its foldable clamshell phone series later this year. There have been numerous rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 for a while now. And as with competitors like Motorola with its Moto Razr for 2023 and the already existing Oppo Find N2 Flip, it’s suspected that Samsung will improve the cover display for its latest model.

Some previous “leaks” have suggested that the front display will be much larger than its predecessors – even so large that it will take up the entire top cover. However, a new rumor suggests that while the device is larger, it will still have a tab on the front where the camera sits. And in addition to the two lenses, there will be… another display.

Information gathered by online tipster and Korean YouTuber Super Roader indicates that the upcoming Flip will have an additional small display. And why? We’re not entirely sure, but it might be that it will always be on to check the time, weather data and notifications, while the larger of the two displays will turn off when not in use to conserve battery power.

To illustrate his findings, the conceptual artist Technizo Concept created a series of renders showing what the new phone might look like. If it comes close to the goal, it will surely turn heads.

The concept art also shows a single pinhole camera on the interior display, a neat, solid metal chassis, and no hinge gap when folded.

Super Roader also states in its YouTube post (in Korean) that the processing and graphics will be significantly improved compared to the Z Flip 4. The phone will also be thinner and lighter, while the creases on the interior display will be far less noticeable.

We’ve also heard in the recent past that the device will be the first in the series to be water and dust resistant, along with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 due to be released at the same time. Samsung is said to be hoping for an IP67 rating for the Flip 5.

Additionally, the main camera might be 12-megapixels, which isn’t spectacular compared to a Samsung Galaxy S23, but still offers a decent experience when you add up the other perks set to launch this year.

We’ll keep you updated on all the news surrounding the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 over the coming months. With an expected August release date (as is usual for the lineup), we expect there will be plenty more rumors and leaks to grapple with.
