the sales process and the price of Olympic tickets are causing strong tensions

The process of purchasing the first 3 million tickets (out of the 10 million planned) to attend events at the Olympic Games, in the summer of 2024 (from July 26 to August 11), was expected to be quite complex and future spectators and spectators should expect to have to pay relatively high sums, despite the sale of tickets at 24 euros (10% of the total). This is confirmed following less than a week of opening the first phase of ticketing (it started on February 15). The reactions on social networks testify to the disappointment and incomprehension of many people not only in the face of the complexity of the procedure put in place by Paris 2024, but especially in the face of the amounts to be paid to obtain the precious sesame.

Made-to-measure not so… made-to-measure

To be able to buy tickets, you must first have been drawn. Since Monday February 13 – and theoretically until March 15 – the lucky ones are notified by e-mail. They then have a slot of forty-eight hours to buy between three and eighteen tickets in at least three different disciplines, out of the 31 available (surfing, which will take place in Tahiti, is not accessible).

However, it is necessary to integrate the fact that, if one takes, for example, three places for a first discipline, it will also be necessary to order three places for the two following sports. This has sometimes been a bad surprise for a number of people.

More frustratingly, depending on the first choice sport chosen, it may not be possible to access this or that other sport for the second and third choice sessions. The attribution system implemented prevents in particular from opting for three competitions considered as prestigious.

The possibility of putting together a tailor-made pack, highlighted by Paris 2024, is therefore not so real. The organizers invoke the need to have a balance in ticket sales between the different disciplines.

In addition, from the end of last week, sports such as fencing, climbing and BMX were already no longer accessible. New tickets will however be available during the unit sale, which will begin on May 11, according to the same principle of the prior draw. For those who have already acquired tickets during the first phase, it will not be possible to go beyond a total of 30 tickets.

At the same time, places will be offered for the most sought-following competitions (basketball, 100-meter athletics and swimming finals) and those for the opening ceremony.
