After a short tour of Europe to collect the various elements of the launcher, the Canopée left Le Havre on Saturday February 10.

The Canopy, the European Space Agency (ESA) ship, left Le Havre on Saturday February 10, 2024. Carrying the parts of Ariane 6, it began its crossing of the Atlantic to reach the port of Pariacabo in Kourou. He is expected in Guyana by the end of February.

Ariane is a European project and the boat made a short tour of Europe before crossing the Atlantic. THE Canopy left Bordeaux carrying the side boosters of the new launcher. It then passed through Germany and the Netherlands, to recover one of the stages and the fairing of the rocket, before going up the Seine towards Le Havre, loaded with another stage.

121 meters long and 22 meters wide, the Canopy has four sails. A hybrid, the cargo ship operates partly on the power of the wind. “It’s a boat that will save tens of tons of fuel per trip. We really save tons of fuel per day thanks to the sails,” explained Nils Joyeux, the general manager of Alizés, the charterer of the Canopée, during the inauguration of the boat last October.

The inaugural flight of Ariane 6 is planned between mid-June and mid-July 2024.
