The Russian Football Union (RFU) will refuse Adidas equipment, the team will have a new technical sponsor, said TASS RFU President Alexander Dyukov.
“We can say for sure that in 2023 we will not have an Adidas kit,” Dyukov said.
According to him, a contract with a new technical sponsor will be signed in the first quarter, negotiations are underway.
The RFU has been partnering with Adidas since 2008. In early March, the German outfitter suspended the agreement that was valid until 2026, but the Russian team played three friendly matches in the autumn in the form of Adidas.
Since the end of February, the Russian national team has been suspended from tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA due to a special operation in Ukraine. The Russian team was excluded from the qualifying tournament of the World Cup in Qatar and the Euro 2024 qualification draw.
In early May, due to UEFA sanctions, a sponsorship contract with Spartak terminated Nike. Russian athletes also had problems with equipment suppliers in other sports. So, Canadian CCM stopped partnerships with Alexander Ovechkin and other Russian NHL stars, and the French manufacturer skiing Rossignol – with three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov and other Russian skiers.
