Since 2016, basketball athletes and fans have been waiting for a new edition of the Run Ball. This year, the event is back in force and sold out.

– 270 young people at training camp –

Organized by the Réunion basketball league, the event takes place in two stages. The first, a week of training camp with young people.

For 5 days, shuttles will pick up children aged 10 to 15, members of clubs all over the island, to take them to the Port. On the program for the day, training but also discussions with high-level coaches from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

And the league’s proposal had its effect since 270 children registered against 120 initially planned. Seven high-level coaches and around sixty coaches from Reunion will also be there.

At the same time as the camp, visits are organized in several schools throughout the island, says Johan Guillou, president of the basketball league.

“This is an extremely important moment for basketball in La Reunion. Over a week we have the training of young people, coaches, trainees in BPJEPS basketball and even a dozen children from the Mamoudzou basketball school. in Mayotte who will be on the move especially to integrate the camp” he expresses.

⁃ A gala evening, two matches –

“The icing on the cake, two gala matches with for the first time the boys but also the girls on the ground” launches Johan Guillou.

This evening will be an opportunity to meet Kreopolitans and Kreopolitans on the Reunion floor but also to see international players who have passed through the NBA. “It’s not every day that the Reunionese public can see this,” says the organizer.

In addition to the players, the assistant coach of the French team, Laurent Foirest will be guest of honor alongside two assistant coaches from the young teams. High-level referees who intervene in the French professional championship will also be on the field and will train the island’s referees at the same time.

“We will be able to see what high-level coaching and high-level refereeing is” promises Yohan Guillou. Reunionese coaches will have their place to play by being appointed assistant coaches for the preparation of matches.

There will be a match but an artistic show with dance and video and light effects. “It’s the first time during the gala match that we’re going to put on a show like we’re going to do” affirms the president of the league who did not want to reveal more.

The girls will compete at 6 p.m. on Saturday July 8, the boys at 8:45 p.m.

– Beautiful people one year from the Olympic Games –

As for previous editions, basketball stars will be reunited. “One year before the Olympic Games, the Run ball is an opportunity to have internationals in Reunion before the Olympic year” develops the president of the league.

For the sponsors of the event, we will find Vincent Poirier and Petr Cornelie, two French internationals who passed through the NBA and are now European champions playing in Madrid.

For the godmothers, Sandrine Gruda, one of the best players of the France team, passed by the NBA, and among the five best European players on the last international competition was solicited.

She is currently licensed at ASVEL Lyon, the club of Tony Parker and is champion of France and Europe. Nwal-Endéné Miyem will be the second sponsor of the event. This player holds the record for selections in the French team and currently plays in Bourges.

Certainly an event such as the Run Ball requires a lot of work, organization and has a cost for the basketball league, but the organization does not regret its return.

“I think there is no price when you do this for children who do not have the opportunity to leave Reunion and see all this elsewhere” concludes the president.
