On this eve of the National Day, the riders of the Tour de France are competing in the 12th stage between Roanne and Belleville-en-Beaujolais. During the 168.8 steep kilometers, and 3,210 meters of elevation gain, the runners should be entitled to the same day as Wednesday. The escapees should once once more finish in the first places.

The peloton will set off from Roanne at 1:20 p.m. (fictitious start at 1:05 p.m.) and will cross the departments of Loire, Rhône and Saône-et-Loire. The arrival is scheduled around 5:20 p.m. (if we take into account an average speed of 42 km/h). While the route provides for a succession of climbs and descents, and the runners will have to start by climbing and arrive by descending. Five listed climbs will punctuate the followingnoon. They all count for the best climber’s polka dot jersey. We will find at kilometer 20.5 the Côte de Thizy-les-Bourgs (4.3km at 5.6%). Then, the Col des Ecorbans (2.1km at 6.9%) and the Col de la Casse Froide, 3rd category (5.2km at 6.1%). Finally will come the turn of the 2nd category passes, namely the Col de la Croix Montmain (5.5km at 6.1%) and the Col de la Croix Rosier (5.3km at 7.6%). All peaks are between 633 and 853 meters above sea level. On Wednesday, Jasper Philipsen won the final sprint, during the last course for true pure sprinters.
