Viedma’s Lucio Minicheli defied the wind and the little bit of wind to win the biggest prize in the second edition of the Roosterfish Festival in the El Cóndor resort, which brought together regarding 150 participants and was organized by the Patagonian Fishing Association of Viedma. “It’s the third contest I’ve participated in, I’m not an expert and I do what I can,” the winner stated with a smile.
Minichelli won the prize of $500,000, by catching the largest piece of 2,950 kg on a gray day on the central beach of the maritime town. The podium was completed by the Viedmense Luis Raquila (2,715 kg) and Cristian Nicoliello (2,690).
For Minichelli it was his third fishing tournament. The first was last year in the first edition of this contest and then he went to Claromecó, although he clarified that “I’m not one to compete” and he started fishing regularly just five years ago. «My grandfather used to take me fishing and five years ago I went out alone»
On the podium there was emotion from Minichelli and his family since the award will be “a great help.” and I am very happy, I don’t know how to react. He explained that he caught the winning roosterfish around 1:30 p.m., an hour and a half before the end of the competition. «The line was in the water for regarding 10 minutes, it loosened, I tightened it once more and when I felt it loosen once more I gave it a tug. When he got closer to the shore I realized that he had an important size and when I knew that I might do it I was very happy.
The winner congratulated the organization “because it was very well organized and better than the last edition” and took the opportunity to thank “the guys from Acantilado Pesca who always put up with me and gave me the winning bait.”

The varied category that was with mandatory return, Damián Giunchiglia from the Rio Negro capital won with a 7,385 kilogram dog and took home $100,000. In second place was Gastón Mendióroz from Carmen de Patagones, also with a 2,715kg mutt.
