During the platform announcement panel Crunchyroll at the convention Anime Expoheld in Los Angeles, it was announced that the romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Fumita Yanagida, Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! (Tomo-chan Is a Girl!) will be adapted to anime. The series has its premiere scheduled for January 2023 under the production of the studios Lay-duce.
The first visual for the series was also released.
The author, Fumita Yanagida published a special illustration to celebrate the announcement.

Yanagida began publishing the manga in April 2015 in the magazine Saizensen and ended it in July 2019 with eight compilation volumes published in total under the umbrella of the publisher Kodansha.
