A friend’s conversation in times of need…
Thank you, Basil
Naser Kandeel
In an article last Saturday, April 6, in “Points on Letters” entitled “The Dialogue of a Friend in Time of Distress… A Discussion with Gebran Bassil,” I presented the role played by the Lebanon Front, led by Hezbollah, in the Gaza War and its functions in protecting the deterrence force to protect Lebanon, prevent war once morest it, and improve The conditions for waging it were imposed by the madness of the occupation army and its political and military leaders, and considered that what the resistance did in the south was half a war, and what the American wants is no war in order to devote himself to the Gaza war and then turn to the Lebanon war, and what the Israeli is threatening is a full war because half the war exhausts his army and settlers and complicates Opportunities for victory over Gaza, and I called on the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Representative Gebran Bassil, from the Friendship Position, to carefully consider the difference between war, non-war, and half-war, and to pay attention to the fact that the half-war option on which the resistance builds its strategy is optimal for Lebanon. I wished him, in light of the disagreement over the assessment of the war, to continue emphasizing not to allow the enemy to fish in the waters of disagreement, and to stress that waging war on Lebanon would make its internal front cohesive in the face of war.
Yesterday, Representative Bassil spoke following the Free Patriotic Movement’s political council meeting on many issues, and presented the situation in the south. Among what he said:
Our position is also an affirmation that our internal front will not be as weak as the Israeli enemy hopes if it wants to wage war once morest us, but it will be weak if we waste our internal strength by striking the state, institutions, partnership and national unity.
All we are doing here is demanding the implementation of 1701 through a new international resolution affirming it. We have the right to demand a ceasefire. This does not weaken Lebanon or the resistance, but rather prevents any retreat for them. And whoever wants to advise us and call us a friend, he is truly a friend, and we must later evaluate the benefits of half the war, and we must engage in dialogue, of course, and always, but I wish dialogue and discussion might take place, or he would become part of the relationship.
I extend my greetings and thanks to Representative Bassil, because he is among the few politicians who read, accept criticism and disagreement, and interact publicly with what is written and published from a position of friendship and concern, especially when it is from a position of disagreement, and interacting in the manner expressed in the words of the head of the Free Patriotic Movement opens the door to dialogue. To evaluate the option of half-war, with the constant hope on the part of all those concerned regarding the relationship between the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah, and who see it as a rare bridge to cross between the sects, that this dialogue between them will take place as soon as possible, and they are the most capable of knowing the weaknesses and strengths of the relationship that brought them together. Which every keen and sincere person hopes will regain its health.
