On February 19, two-way traffic on the road between Mezdra and Lutidol will be opened, the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) announced, although a month ago the road agency promised that it would be opened by mid-February.

In October 2023, API promised that the road would be opened by December 15.

It is specified that the movement in the 13.4-kilometer section, which is under construction since 2019 and is part of the Vidin – Botevgrad expressway, will take place with a temporary organization of the movement and in the following days the builder should complete all the necessary activities guaranteeing safe travel to the drivers.

API added that the construction of the two large road junctions on two levels – at Mezdra and Durmantsi, which are expected to be ready by the end of this year, remains.

The road agency still did not keep its promise to open the Mezdra – Lutidol road

The road agency clarified in response to a question from “Dnevnik” that by the end of this year, the extension to an expressway (two lanes with two lanes each) on the sections Mezdra – Lyutidol and Lyutidol – Botevgrad, which is regarding 19.3 km long, will be completed. Construction activities on the final completion of the Lyutidol road junction and the Botevgrad road junction will continue until the end of 2025, without hindering normal traffic on the road between Vidin and Botevgrad, API assures.

According to the head of the road agency, Yasen Yordanov, quoted by BTA, the bad weather did not allow placing a horizontal marking, and therefore the deadline promised by the road agency for opening the road by mid-February would not be met.
