If using our mobile phone can have effects on our health, a new study suggests that it might increase blood pressure.
Le smartphone has taken a prominent place in the lives of millions of users in just a few years. It is used to stay in touch with loved ones, find your way, have fun, consult your social networks… But the mobile phone retains above all its primary function: that of allowing us to make calls.
However, having a telephone to our ear for too long has invisible consequences on our health. In the past, studies had highlighted a risk of brain tumor in the event of calls of more than 17 minutes per day. But today, another disturbing study reveals the dangers of the smartphone.
This was conducted by researchers from the Southern Medical University of Guangzhou (China) and was relayed by the European Society of Cardiology. It highlights a potential increase in high blood pressure linked to our use of the smartphone.
The time spent talking impacts our heart health
The researchers wanted to study a potential link between the development of hypertension and smartphone use. For this they did appeal to more than 212,000 adult volunteers over the age of 35. Then they invited these volunteers to complete a questionnaire. Subsequently, the answers given were analyzed and compared with certain data.
Indeed, the researchers also took into account the medical, genetic and other factors (age, sex, education, etc.) of the volunteers. Finally, in order to obtain lasting information, the follow-up of those concerned lasted for 12 years. However, at the end of this period, nearly 14,000 volunteers developed arterial hypertension.
But the most amazing thing is that the risk factor is the time spent talking on the phone. The more time spent calling with a mobile phone, the greater the risk of hypertension. The craziest thing is that the simple fact ofcalling 30 minutes a week can already have an impact on tension.
How to limit the risk when using the mobile phone?
According to the data collected by the researchers, the risk of high blood pressure would increase by 7% compared to people who do not use smartphones to make calls. It should also be noted that the hands-free kit would have no influence on these figures.
Worse still, if the calls exceed 6 hours per week, the risk of hypertension increases to 25%. However, no side effects were observed on weekly calls of less than 30 minutes. Use a landline, make a video or reduce calls to the bare minimum is therefore recommended by scientists.
However, they point out that further research is needed to better understand the subject and its risk factors.
