Influenza is currently experiencing a meteoric rise, even eclipsing COVID-19.

On December 9, 8% of tests were declared positive for influenza, while no less than 19.7% of tests were positive on December 30.
Doctor Gaétan Barrette also warns the population that, this year, the influenza virus, also called the flu, is stronger than in previous years.
“There are different types of influenza, and this year – we saw it come to the southern hemisphere – it is H1N1, which is harder than the other viruses in this family, and it is what is currently spreading,” he explains, specifying that the propagation period extends from December to February.
Even if the vaccine “is not perfect”, Dr. Barrette insists on the importance of having good vaccination coverage at this time of the year, since the vaccine helps protect once morest possible complications of the virus.
