Until a couple of decades ago there was a record of 50 million people with type 2 diabetes in the world, a much lower figure than today, which is around 600 million patients. In this episode of Educando ConCiencia, in collaboration with Comfama, functional physician Carlos Jaramillo explains some of the reasons for that increase and why it is a disease caused by the modern world.

Type 2 diabetes depends on external factors that are associated with lifestyle. Poor diet, loss of muscle mass, lack of exercise, stress and alterations in the microbiota (intestinal flora) are the main causes. To prevent this disease from appearing, The key, according to Dr. Jaramillo, is to review habits, diet, sleep and physical activity. “We must learn regarding these issues and understand that we don’t know them all. That is an act of humility and self-love. Preventing it is always in our hands,” says Jaramillo.
