The United States is the country in the world with the largest number of people with fortunes in the hundreds of millions of dollars. It is known that in places like New York, California, Florida and Texas there is a large concentration of these personal fortunes. However, in almost every state in the country these billionaires stand out.

Forbes magazine made its list that indicates who is the richest person in each state, achieving a list of 47 billionaires spread across the country. The last time they made this list was in 2019, and at that time there were 44 people on it, since in a few states there is no one whose personal fortune exceeds one hundred million dollars.
In the last four years, a third of the states changed the podium of the richest person. For example, in Texas today the richest person is Elon Musk. In 2019, the owner of Tesla lived in California. The same goes for the richest person in Florida today, which is Ken Griffin. The owner of Citadel used to live in Chicago.

Four members of the list managed to have more than one hundred million dollars during these four years. This is the case of Ron Corio, the owner of the Array Technologies solar panel factory, who has just become the first person with more than a billion dollars in New Mexico. Vermont, Alabama and New Hampshire also made the list for the first time this year. The only states at this time in which no one whose personal fortune exceeds one hundred million dollars lives are Alaska, Delaware, and West Virginia. In the other 47 states there is at least one person with a fortune of that magnitude.
There are states where competition is fierce because there are many who have this type of money. For example, Bill Gates, owner of Microsoft, is not on the list because he lives in Washington state, where Jeff Bezos, owner of Amazon, also lives.

According to Forbes, there are 775 people with personal fortunes of more than one hundred million dollars in the United States and 60% of them live in four states: 179 in California, 130 in New York, 92 in Florida and 73 in Texas.
The average age of these millionaires is 73 years old, but there is a lot of breadth on the list. Walmart heir Lukas Walton, 36, is the youngest. Annette Lerner, owner of the Washington Nationals, at 93 years old is the oldest.
More than half of these millionaires made their fortunes in just four industries: finance, fashion, food and technology. Two-thirds of those on the list made their money alone, the rest inherited fortunes.
