One hundred million dollars was handed to Greta Gerwig to make a film regarding a toy doll. It’s the same budget Christopher Nolan got for his history play Oppenheimer. That is exceptional. Not because one movie is regarding Barbie and the other is regarding bombs. It was clear that there would be a lot of money involved when Mattel’s best-selling film hits the big screen. But few women before Gerwig have been entrusted with such a large budget in Hollywood.
