The German-American wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the great hopes of the Detroit Lions. Last season, he caught passes for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns. For his third NFL season, the 23-year-old apparently wants an even bigger role in the Lions system.
As the Detroit Free Press reports, St. Brown intends to become even more of a “deep threat” in 2023. In other words, he wants even more deep passes.
Receiver Coach lobt St. Brown
Antwaan Randle El, the Lions receiver coach, promises the pass receiver exactly that. “He can get in and out of cuts easily, he wouldn’t have to do a lot of other things because he can just break free very quickly,” said the coach.
“So I just want him to run those smooth routes. He’s done that in the OTAs and it’s been a good progression for him. He doesn’t have to do any extra movements, he just has to run the routes.”
St. Brown averaged 10.6 yards per catch last season. There are faster pass recipients than St. Brown, who runs the 40 yards in 4.61 seconds. However, he is a very good route runner and catches balls even in difficult situations, acts very decisively in the air, for example, and often beats the cornerbacks.
All of these are good prerequisites for running the deep routes.
