Still on the rise. The consumer price index stood at 4.9% over one year in September, INSEE announced definitively on Friday October 13, confirming its first estimate. Over one month, however, the price trend is downward, with minus 0.5% between the months of August and September.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, the slowdown in food prices has offset the “strong acceleration” those of energy. In September, the latter increased by 11.9% over one year, after 6.8% in August, due to “not rebound” petroleum products. The rise in electricity prices is slowing down a little (+16.1% in September after +18% in August), while gas continues to increase at the same rate (+7.6%).

Conversely, food prices, which had become the main driver of inflation, continued to slow down for the sixth consecutive month. They increased by 9.7% year-on-year in September, compared to 11.2% in August. The decline is even more marked for fresh products. Over one month, they even fell by 0.3%, a first since October 2021, according to INSEE.
