Switzerland recorded a new surge in inflation in February, of 0.7% month on month. Over one year, the consumer price index rose by 2.2%, once morest another 1.6% the previous month.

The extent of the inflation exceeds the highest expectations of economists consulted by AWP, who capped their predictions at 0.5% over one month and 2.0% over one year.

Adjusted for fresh or seasonal products, as well as energy and fuel, core inflation reached 1.3% over twelve months, once morest another 0.8% in January, according to calculations by the Federal Office of Statistics (OFS) published on Thursday.

Motor fuels thus largely contributed to the rise in the index, accompanied by residential rents and fuel oil. The trend was mitigated by the reduction in the price of bays and hotel nights.
