The right-wing party strongly opposes the FRP’s proposal for drug raids with dogs in schools

– We cannot sit idly by and watch drug use among young people escalate, and that ever younger children are drawn into a criminal racetrack, she says to NRK.

In 2021, drug raids with dogs at schools were stopped by the Norwegian Police Directorate, after several years of debate and criticism of the practice.

The student organization pointed out, among other things, that students experienced visits from drug dogs as unsafe and stigmatizing. Bjørnevik does not agree with that description.

– The police must be given all the tools they need to overcome a development where we see children down to primary school age out and about dealing drugs on behalf of gang criminals, says Bjørnevik.

Oslo municipality’s education council, Julie Remen Midtgarden (H), strongly opposes the proposal.

– Drug raids with dogs have no place in schools in Oslo. There is no research to support that systematic drug raids or suspicion in Norwegian schools reduce young people’s use of illegal drugs. On the contrary, she tells NTB.

Midtgarden believes that more must be invested in drug prevention.

– Young people need to know that there is a support system they can seek help from if they have drug problems.
