In 1998, HBO unveils a new program that talks openly regarding sex, where a group of friends present often hilarious moments in their lives. So far, nothing new. Except that the protagonists are four women. And that’s why Sex and the City is now seen as the most avant-garde (not to say revolutionary) series of the 90’s. For the time, it also offers a new look at the professional condition of women. More than just a cult series from the 1990s, Sex and the City was a real revolution in the television world. A look back at the best episodes of the series according to Vogue France.

Don’t Hate Me (Season 6, Episode 7)

This is the episode that portrays the archetypal cad. No, we are not talking regarding Mr Big or Aidan, but regarding Berger, Carrie’s little one throughout season 5. In don’t hate me, Carrie receives a nice publishing opportunity while the reviews of Berger’s latest novel are very poor. Not supporting that she is more successful than him, he decides to break up… on a post-it, with the simple words: “I’m sorry. I can’t. Don’t hate me.” Carrie has to deal with the breakup and yet, this episode remains much more comic than dramatic, which makes it one of the most appreciated of the series.

Twenty years and dust (season 1, episode 4)

In 1998 the first season of Sex and the City. If the series managed to quickly become iconic, one episode, in particular, changed mentalities. In Twenty years and dust, Carrie meets Sam, a young man in his twenties whom she turns to for consolation from Mr Big. After a one-night stand, the young woman wakes up to find a nightmarish apartment. A brief relationship that will make her realize that there is nothing better than shopping to alleviate her grief: she thus returns to her ultimate addiction, shoe stores.

The next generation (season 3, episode 15)

What a pleasure to follow the adventures of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte in Los Angeles! There are four women who have to deal with problems of insecurity. When Samantha becomes jealous of Jenny’s privileged life, a teenager she has to organize a bar mitzvah for, Carrie dates an immature man and Miranda wears braces. This episode deals with the eternal search for youth through comical scenes that allow us to deal differently with the theme of maturity.

Thirty years and dust (season 2, episode 17)

We love the episodes where Carrie walks the streets of New York in her stilettos Manolo Blahnikbut we also love when she and her friends leave the Big Apple to end up in the Hamptons. In Thirty years and dust, Carrie, at the weekend, bumps into Mr Big and his new fiancée, 25-year-old Natasha. This episode focuses on how the foursome members deal with their ages, especially when she encounters girls in their twenties who provoke them.

“I’m going to say something you’re not supposed to say. I love you, but I love myself even more.” – Samantha

Narcissus (season 4, episode 2)

“Dolce & Gabbana picked me!?”. This is Carrie’s memorable reaction when she is asked to parade for the Italian house’s new collection in the episode Narcisse. Why is it iconic? Because this is the episode where the New Yorker stumbles on the podium, before Heidi Klum step over it to pass in turn. He simply confirms that she is the girl next door which we can all identify with, and highlights the difficulty we sometimes encounter in accepting ourselves as we are. Special mention for the song Got To Be Real of Cheryl Lynn which punctuates the entire end of the episode.

An American in Paris (season 6, episodes 1 and 2)

Exit Emily in Paris ! Carrie, much more iconic, was the first to fly to the French capital. Despite the few cliché scenes (when Carrie Bradshaw accidentally walks in dog droppings, for example), this double episode puts a nice end to the series. She goes to Paris to live her new life with Aleksandr Petrovsky, but all does not go as planned. These two episodes focus on the reconquest of Carrie by Mr Big, who does not hesitate to fly to Europe, the adoption process of Charlotte and Harry, the charity of Miranda who must take care of her beautiful -sick mother, and regarding Samantha, who finally confesses her feelings for Smith.

Ex & the city (season 2, episode 18)

It is at this episode, finally, that the story between Carrie and Mr Big might (or should) have ended. It is at this moment that the young woman resigns herself (not without difficulty) to accepting the latter’s engagement with his young girlfriend Natasha. What do we remember? The episode finale, when Carrie bids farewell to Big and quotes the movie Our best yearswith Robert Redford et Barbra Streisand. One of the most moving moments of Sex and the City.

what the fuck (season 5, episode 3)

Direction Atlantic City, where the girls of Sex and the City meet to celebrate Charlotte’s birthday. When the latter does not want to grow old and struggles to have a good time, Samantha becomes paranoid and cannot get out of her head that Richard is cheating on her, and Miranda, who has just given birth, has a complex regarding her weight. Only Carrie tries to motivate the troops! An episode that ends with a nice declaration of friendship.
